With a distinctly international flavour, Gold Coast band BB Factory are bringing their 'no rules blues' to the fore with the release of their first single Save Me, which debuted at #1 on Itunes Australia Blues charts when released on 3 November.
Following encore festival performances at 2017's Blues On Broadbeach, the five established musicians stepped into Clockwork Recording Studios to put the finishing touches on their debut album First World Blues, which breathes new life into a rich musical history and contemporary blues roots with retro rock influences.
"Our formative influences go way back to our lead singer's work on plantations in America's deep South to more contemporary artists like Keb Mo, Gary Clark Jr and John Mayer," said guitarist Pedro Verhoeven, "We certainly play plenty of 12 bar blues but we love to push the song structures, styles and sounds beyond traditional blues boundaries."
Written after waking from a haunting dream, BB Factory's new tune, Save Me, is a poignant lament laced with layers of potential meaning.
"We hope listeners find their own meaning in the song. Even within the band we have different takes on what Save Me means, with some of us seeing it as a cry for help, others as a 'be careful what you wish for' message and others just having fun with the imagery," said Pedro.
According to Paul Blakey at 12th & Vine Post (Louie Shelton, Busby Marou, Amy Shark), BB Factory are, "Soul tinged urban blues with a plea from the heart," with others saying they're reminiscent of artists like Robert Cray and John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers.
"All the songs on the First World Blues album are unique with the feels, tempos, dynamics and vibe of each song giving something unique but all sharing the powerful sonic footprint of Jackson's distinctive vocals. We can't wait to share the whole thang," said Pedro.
BB Factory's debut single Save Me is out on digital outlets 3 November.
Based on the Gold Coast, BB Factory are a five-piece international band featuring New York City's Harold Jackson (vocals), Nederlander Pedro Verhoeven (guitar), New Zealander Bevan Davison (drums), Bruce Crouch (keys) from Brisbane and Sunny Coast's Craig Hamilton (bass).
