They are a tight Powerhouse Band with a stage presence that cannot be ignored.
Blues Rock with an edge. The Hipshooters formed in 1992 in Auckland, New Zealand. They then migrated to Brisbane Australia in 1995 where they ripped up the Blues scene. Original members, Anton Elkington on Lead Guitar and Vocals and Bassist Billy Williams were joined by NZ expat Drummer Grant Bedford in 2010.
Using the music of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan as a catalyst the band has developed an eclectic style of blues, rock, funk, and jazz. Upbeat original material mixes it up with popular standards and highly charged R&B.
After moving to Brisbane they became firmly established by regularly playing at Major Blues Festivals and releasing four Independently produced CD’s. They have also picked up two Australian Blues Awards for ‘Best Song’ and ‘Best Band’.
There’s a jolt of Texas Blues, stinging Guitar solos with solid rock. How can something be so smooth and gravelly and fiery at the same time?
The band continue to play to fantastic responses at many of the Major Blues Festivals including Byron Bay Blues and Roots, Broadbeach Blues,Woodford Music Festival and the Gympie Muster on many occasions.
The Hipshooters are now touring Australasia again promoting the release of their fifth CD. ‘Broken Man’.
